Ford set to give announcement as Ontario's COVID-19 cases decline

Premier Doug Ford is set to make an announcement on Friday afternoon as Ontario’s COVID-19 case count starts declining.

Ford will be joined by Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, Solicitor General Sylvia Jones, and Dr. David Williams, Chief Medical Officer of Health, to make the announcement.

On Thursday, health officials released updated COVID-19 modelling data which showed that cases are declining but the UK variant is posing a “significant threat.”

It will be the dominant strain come March, with officials saying the vaccine will be effective against it.

However, there have been delays of the Pfizer vaccine with no shipments entering Canada this week.

And the Ontario government made some reporting errors on some COVID-19 vaccine data saying 96,000 were fully vaccinated when it was actually 55,286.

The press briefing will take place at 3 pm from Queen’s Park.
