Toronto restaurants team up to deliver food to hospitals

While many Toronto restaurants have launched delivery services to get food to those hunkered down at home, one team of eateries is doing it for frontline workers.

The folks behind Famiglia BaldassarreBar ApeSugo, and Sovereign Cafe (the self-proclaimed Marinara Boys) have teamed up to assemble high-quality hot meals for healthcare workers across the city.

On Sunday, members of the team delivered meals to the Emergency and ICU departments at St. Joseph’s Health Centre. Since then, they’ve also dropped food off at Toronto General, Mount Sinai, and Sick Kids.

Visits to St. Michael’s Hospital and Grace Health Centre are still to come.

Donning masks and gloves, photos and videos shared to Instagram show the team assembling huge pasta dishes, packing up the goods, and elbow-bumping hospital staff as they pass the eats along.

Meanwhile, Famiglia Baldassarre continues to run as a contactless shop, where customers can visit, one at a time, to grab fresh pasta, cans of tomatoes, eggs, olive oil, and other essentials.

If you plan to visit, note that the spot has a “you touch, you buy,” rule in place.
