Environment Canada issues special weather statement for Toronto

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the city of Toronto, as strong winds are expected on Sunday.

Gusts are expected to reach 70 to 80 kilometres an hour, and there’s a chance for local power outages, they say.

The strong winds will be caused by a low pressure system that’s forecasted to move across northeastern Ontario on Sunday.

“The highest winds are expected to be ushered in with the passage of a cold front, where southwest winds gusting up to 80 km/h are forecast,” according to the alert.

Toronto is expected to face the strongest gusts in the afternoon. Strong winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break, Environment Canada warned.

The wind will slowly ease Sunday night into Monday morning.

Tomorrow’s forecast is also calling for periods of rain throughout the day, and there’s a 70% chance of rain or flurries Sunday night.
