Major Don Valley Parkway bridge repairs to reduce lanes all summer
The Don Valley Parkway, or as Toronto calls it, the “DVP,” is a 15-kilometre long expressway that runs from the Gardiner Expressway in downtown Toronto to Highway 401 and is one of Toronto’s most vital transit arterial roads.
And this summer, the City of Toronto will start to rehabilitate four bridges over the DVP.
This includes work on the Don Mills Road bridge, Spanbridge Road bridge, Wynford Drive bridge, and the Lawrence Avenue East bridge.
“This important work will ensure that the bridges meet today’s standards and remain safe for vehicles and pedestrians into the future,” states the city’s website.
“The most extensive work is required on the Don Mills Road bridge and the city has bundled the rehabilitation of three other bridges into this project to complete the work as quickly as possible during the summer months (when there are typically lower traffic volumes) and avoid occupying more lanes on the DVP in coming years.”
All the work will start on July 2, and the planned end date is October 2019.

Overnight beginning at 10 pm on Monday, July 1, southbound DVP at Lawrence Avenue East and at Don Mills Road will be reduced to one lane and the DVP at Spanbridge Road and Wynford Drive will be reduced to two lanes as crews work to safely set up the construction work zone.
The northbound DVP work zone will be set up beginning at 12 am on Tuesday, July 2, according to the city. From Don Mills Road moving towards Lawrence Avenue East, northbound DVP will be reduced to one lane until 5 am on Tuesday, July 2.

Depending on the progress made overnight on July 1 to July 2, crews may implement similar lane restrictions overnight on July 2 to July 3 to safely complete the work zone staging.
By 5 am on Tuesday, July 2, at least two lanes will be open in each direction on the DVP.
All lane restrictions as part of the traffic impact below should be fully in effect by Wednesday, July 3.
