Delivery driver charged after fatal collision that killed 18-month-old boy

A Brampton delivery driver has been arrested and is facing charges after a fatal collision claimed the life of an 18-month-old boy.

According to York Regional Police, on September 14, 25-year-old Arshdeep Oathi of Brampton has been charged in relation to the tragic incident that occurred in August of this year.

Just before 5:30 pm on August 12, a delivery driver was using a van in the parking lot of 2365 Confederation Parkway in Mississauga.

At the same time, an 18-month-old and his mother were in the same parking lot, and as the driver was exiting the parking lot, police state the victim was then struck by the vehicle.

“The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported by the delivery driver and the victim’s mother to a local hospital. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later,” said the YRP.

Oathi is charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death and released on an Undertaking, according to police.

The man is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in the City of Brampton on November 16, 2020.
