Michael Bublé having Canadian identity crisis on whether to cheer for Toronto Blue Jays in World Series

Despite being born and raised in Canada, singer Michael Bublé is conflicted when it comes to cheering for the Toronto Blue Jays these next few weeks.

Bublé, who grew up in Burnaby, BC, is a massive sports fan, and, in particular, a hockey fan. The 50-year-old is a passionate supporter of the Vancouver Canucks, and, despite his current conflict, grew up a Jays fan.

The reason Bublé feels uncertain about who to cheer for revolves around Shohei Ohtani. The 31-year-old, who will go down in history as one of the all-time greats, happens to use Bublé’s 2005 hit “Feeling Good” as his walk-up song. That alone has the Canadian popstar hesitant as to where his allegiance lies in this upcoming World Series.

“The fact that the greatest ball player, maybe, arguably ever, in the history of the game … every single time he walks up to bat, Ohtani uses my song, Feeling Good’ as his walk-up,” Bublé said on The Stephen A. Smith Show. “And then, I’ve gotta somehow fight, that as a Canadian, my beloved Blue Jays are going up against my hero. I’m conflicted.

Well-known sports personality Stephen A. Smith pushed Bublé for an answer. Though he made it clear he’s very proud to be Canadian, Bublé couldn’t seem to decide who he’ll be pulling for.

“My heart is in Canada, I’m a Canadian, I’m a Canadian patriot. I fly the flag, I believe the red and white, but there’s something deeply sensual about watching him go up and hearing myself, and then watching him do what he does,” Bublé said. “I can’t believe that I am a small part of history.”

Though the vast majority of experts have picked the Dodgers to come out on top, Bublé did comment that he believes it will be a much closer series than many expect. He still has a few days to try and decide who he’s pulling for, as Game 1 of the World Series won’t begin until Friday evening.
