Canada's Wonderland opens today with one (very) exciting new attraction

May 3 2019, 7:44 pm

Canada’s Wonderland is opening its doors for the season today, Friday, May 3.

And the massive amusement park is introducing a new ride to kick off its 2019 season. In addition, the whole area that houses the brand new Yukon Striker is now themed as Frontier Canada.

Meant to represent the Klondike Gold Rush era of the late 1890s in the Yukon, the section is home to Mighty Canadian Minebuster, Lumberjack, Soaring Timbers, Flying Canoes, Vortex, Timberwolf Falls and White Water Canyon.

But most importantly, Frontier Canada is now home to the world’s highest and fastest ‘dive’ coaster, Yukon Striker. The new ride dives 75 metres straight down at 90 degree angle, soaring past neighbouring coaster Vortex, and hitting a top speed of 130 km/h as it passes through a tunnel.

The coaster spans just over 1,100 metres in length and consists of 107 track sections that weigh a total of 1,213 metric tonnes. It requires 42 support columns and will feature floorless trains with stadium-style seating in three rows of eight.

Klondike Outfitters, a new shop beside the Yukon Striker, will have gifts and pics of your ride experience on offer.

The new themed area will also offer multiple new food options. Miners Café will be serving up protein bowls, Mess Hall will offer Asian cuisine, The Chuck Wagon will have hot dogs and sausages, and Goldrush Junction will be on-deck with sweet treats like funnel cakes and butter tarts.

But if you’re feeling like something a bit more nutritional, Grab & Go Market in International Festival will be serving up healthy salads and wraps.
