In a day and age where the cost of food keeps going up, more and more Canadians are starting to notice just how expensive their groceries really are.
One of these people, TikTok user @lilnife, posted about her most recent trip to an unnamed grocery store in Burnaby, BC, where she was shocked by the price of some items. More specifically, the cost of Cadbury Mini Eggs and Lay’s potato chips.
“Guys, what the actual fuck? $25.99 for Mini Eggs?” she said, showing an 875g bag of the chocolate.

She then proceeded to move on, saying, “It gets even worse,” and showed a special featuring two bags of Lay’s chips for $9.
“For two bags of chips?” she asked, shocked.
Many people in the comments agreed with the video, saying that groceries in Canada have just gotten more expensive over the years.
“BC in general is a very expensive province though so that’s worth mentioning. Can find the same chips at 2/$5 here at the [No Frills] near me, and I’m in Ontario. Some stores are way more [egregious],” said one TikTok user.
“It happened post-pandemic, though if you factor in the exchange, Iām pretty sure the USA is still more expensive. But itās crazy that I buy $50 of groceries at the store and pay $150,” added another.
“I noticed that in Canada, the food which is bad for you is expensive, but actual food such as vegetables and fruit is reasonably priced,” said a third, which prompted a slew of responses.
“Chips and Mini Eggs are NOT groceries,” said one person.
However, many seemed to think that $9 for two bags of chips wasn’t that bad of a deal.
“Two big bags of chips for less than $10 is insane in Canada,” said one user.
“Nine bucks isn’t bad for 2 big bags of chips,” added another, which received many replies.
“Three years ago, it was two for $5. Five years ago, it was two for $2.50. That bag of Mini Eggs was $10 five years ago, which is still nuts. But the incredible bump in prices is the problem,” added another person.
We decided to do a little digging to see if the price of those Cadbury Mini Eggs was as absurd as the video claimed. While not all grocery stores carried the same 875g bag of Cadbury Mini Eggs, a quick search found that you could find the same bag of Mini Eggs at Walmart for $20.67.

We also found the same-sized bag at Canadian Tire for $22.99.

Save On Foods was the only store we could find selling these Mini Eggs for the same price as in the video, but they were on sale for $19.99, making them technically the cheapest.
