Cafe Diplomatico temporarily closes after death of owner

Toronto restaurant Cafe Diplomatico announced it will be closing for a few days this week to mourn the death of its owner.

In an Instagram post, Connie and Rocco Jr. announced the passing of their father, Rocco Mastrangelo Sr., and shared they will be closing the 594 College Street restaurant for a short period of time.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and founder Rocco Mastrangelo Sr,” reads the post.

“He was a passionate advocate of Italian culture, music, and film in North America. Cafe Diplomatico remains to be one of his most proud and dearest accomplishments.”

The restaurant will be closed until Friday, April 30, until 3 pm.

“Many of you may have met him sitting at his favourite table #19 for lunch. This is where he liked to sit in order to ensure the quality of the espresso and service,” reads the post.

“He passed on his valuable skill and work ethic to both us and the staff alike.”
