There's a huge Butter Tart Taste-Off near Toronto next month

There’s no need to travel across Ontario to find the best butter tart this fall: all the best bakers specializing in the iconic Canadian treat are getting together under one roof this September.

Kawarthas Northumberland Butter Tart Taste-Off is taking place on September 23 at the Peterborough Farmers’ Market will see an entire warehouse-sized building filled with butter tarts as competitors vie for the honour of best butter tart flavours in various categories.

While details have yet to be announced, organizers are already teasing that this year’s festival will be “bigger & better than ever before.” Bakers will be bringing more tarts than ever, and the new venue aims to offer easier access and fewer lines than in years past.

Also new this year, Food Network Chef David Adjey will judge a new specialty butter tart category dubbed the “Canadiana Collection,” as well as hosting an Iron-Chef-style event that will see up-and-coming chefs create from ingredients sourced from the local Farmers’ Market.
