Buck Martinez back on Toronto Blue Jays broadcasts soon after two-month absence

The Toronto Blue Jays made four trades before Thursday’s MLB trade deadline, but they’re about to make another big addition.
Buck Martinez is set to return to the broadcast booth soon.
The 76-year-old broadcaster will be back calling Blue Jays games on Sportsnet beginning with the Aug. 8 to 10 series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
“The thing I get asked more than anything else is ‘How’s Buck? When is Buck coming back?'” Sportsnet play-by-play man Dan Shulman said on Friday night’s Blue Jays broadcast.
“We’re happy to tell you that Buck, who’s been away dealing with some health matters, is going to return one week from tonight,” Shulman added. “I’ve been texting with him all the time, he’s watching every single second of every game.
“He’s thrilled to be coming back.”

Martinez hasn’t called a game since May. The popular baseball analyst was supposed to return to the broadcast booth in late June, following some scheduled time off, but suffered a health setback.
“While I’m feeling pretty good, I am going to take some extra time off out of an abundance of caution,” Martinez said in a June 30 statement. “I hope to see you at the ballpark soon. As always, thanks for all your love and support!”
Joe Siddall has been filling in for Martinez, alongside Shulman.
Martinez is surely eager to return, particularly with the way the Blue Jays have been playing this summer. With a 3.5-game lead on the New York Yankees, Toronto is in first place in the AL East Division with a 64-46 record.
The Blue Jays have cooled off lately, though, losing four of their last five games. Toronto begins a three-game homestand against the Kansas City Royals on Friday, before heading on the road for six straight away games beginning on Monday.
