If you haven’t started tuning in to the Toronto Blue Jays much yet this season, now might just be the time.
In case you missed it, the Blue Jays just wrapped up one of their most iconic regular-season series in recent memory, sweeping the rival New York Yankees in a four-game set at the Rogers Centre.
According to Sportsnet Stats, it’s actually the first time in the nearly 48-year history of the Jays franchise that they’ve swept the Yankees in a four-game set. Additionally, the 36 runs scored over the four games are the most in franchise history.

The series win was doubly exciting for the fact that the Jays ended up catching and then surpassing the Yankees for the American East lead.
While winning a division (or even just making the playoffs) isn’t the ultimate goal for a baseball season, the little victories along the way help make the long 162-game grind a bit more enjoyable.
“Everyone’s contributing, whether it’s hitting, pitching, defence, base-running, I feel like we’re firing on all cylinders, which is really cool to watch,” said Jays infielder Nathan Lukes, per Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi. “It’s just been unbelievable that everybody is doing some sort of something during the game.”
July 4 is officially the latest date in a season that the Jays have held the division lead since 2016, where they won the AL East and eventually advanced to the ALCS for a second year in a row.
And the good signs don’t stop there.
Toronto’s 49 wins through 87 games is their most since 1993, a year they famously won the World Series on Joe Carter’s game-winning walk-off home run in the most iconic moment in franchise history.

While there’s still a lot of baseball left to be played, the omens certainly are looking good for Toronto’s ballclub as they cross the midpoint of the season.
