Toronto Blue Jays fans fear Game 7 curse after Vladdy seen wearing Leafs jersey

Did Vladimir Guerrero Jr. just curse the Toronto Blue Jays ahead of Game 7 of the ALCS?

The Blue Jays are set to play in the franchise’s biggest game since winning the 1993 World Series. They are a single win away from winning the AL pennant and booking their ticket to their third-ever World Series appearance.

All they need to do is defeat the Seattle Mariners in a winner-takes-all Game 7 at the Rogers Centre tonight. It’s as bright as the lights have ever been in Vladdy’s career, and he decided to pick a bold gameday outfit as he arrived to the stadium for the game.

The MLB’s postseason leader in home runs this season walked into Game 7 wearing an Auston Matthews Toronto Maple Leafs away jersey.

It’s easy to see why Guerrero Jr. chose to wear this jersey as Toronto is a hockey-first city most of the time and the Leafs are cherished in those parts. With Matthews being the captain of the Leafs, it was the obvious choice if Vladdy was gonna do something like this.

It is a bit strange that he wore a Matthews jersey that carries an assistant captain’s “A” instead of an updated captain jersey.

The big issue is that the hockey team has become notorious over the past decade as being one of the biggest playoff chokers in all of North American professional sports. The Maple Leafs have played in seven Game 7s since 2013 and have lost every single one of them.

Monday night’s matchup will be just the second-ever Game 7 in Blue Jays history, as they lost their first one all the way back in 1985 to the Kansas City Royals.

Understandably, the fact that Guerrero Jr. chose the Leafs to rep going into such an important game has worried fans about a potential curse.

Some other fans have taken a more optimistic view on the jersey choice, saying that this is a chance for Vladdy to break a longstanding Toronto curse when it comes to Game 7.

No matter what you think of it, what’s done is done. It’ll be up to Guerrero Jr. and the rest of the Blue Jays to prove that there is no curse. But if they lose, many will point back to this being a warning sign.
