The Toronto Blue Jays are looking to the current champs to provide them with their path to the next World Series.

While the organization might still be in search of a big name in free agency, they’ve bulked up a bit of their coaching staff once again this offseason.

According to TSN’s Scott Mitchell, the Jays are hiring Lou Iannotti from the Los Angeles Dodgers into an assistant coaching role, having previously worked in LA as a hitting coordinator.

Back in October, the Blue Jays announced they’d hired David Popkins from the Minnesota Twins, replacing Guillermo Martinez as the team’s hitting coach.

Who is the Blue Jays’ latest coach?

The 32-year-old joins the Blue Jays after serving different roles with the Dodgers since 2018, having won World Series rings in 2020 and this past season.

A former collegiate catcher, injuries ended his baseball career before he decided to take up coaching, first getting a job with the Quinnipiac Bobcats team that he used to play for.

Iannotti appeared quite happy in his last role with the Dodgers, so the new one with Toronto might be a bit of an upgrade to entice him north of the border.

“It’s pretty special,” he said of winning his second World Series ring in an interview with . “You know, getting to work for an organization in professional baseball is cool, but I think the Dodgers have just a little bit more history than a lot of the teams out there.”
