Air Canada will resume service to select sun destinations in May after Canadian airlines suspended all flights to these locations at the start of the year.

The airline will restore some service routes to Jamaica, Mexico, and Barbados, operating three flights per week from Toronto to Mexico City (starting May 3), and one flight per week from Toronto to Kingston, Jamaica (starting March 5) and Bridgetown, Barbados (starting May 9).

On January 29, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that major Canadian airlines would cancel air service to sun destinations, including the Caribbean and Mexico, until April 30.

The airlines included Air Canada, WestJet, Sunwing, and Air Transat.

On Wednesday, WestJet announced it would restore some domestic flights to CharlottetownFredericton, Moncton, Sydney and Quebec City after service was suspended due to COVID-19.

“The reinstatement of service will restore WestJet’s complete network of pre-COVID-19 domestic airports,” the statement said.

Beginning June 24, service is set to resume to the five airports WestJet suspended service from in November 2020.

Currently, those who travel internationally are required to wait in quarantine for three days at a supervised hotel. The stay will cost $2,000 per person – which includes the cost of private tests and the hotel stay.

If a passenger receives a negative test result, they’re able to go home to quarantine with enhanced supervision, but if the test is positive, they are taken to a government facility.
