Toronto just got a new spot to enjoy modern Russian fare

Feb 11 2019, 11:08 pm

If you’ve been looking for a cozy spot to savour borsch, chicken kiev and ponchiki, the search is over.

Adelina Restaurant has taken over the Harbord and Manning corner-spot that used to be Le Notre, and it’s serving traditional Russian fare with a modern twist.

All of which doubles as ideal comfort food for this time of year.

The menu is vast and beautiful to look at. The pirozhki is a Russian take on the empanada, made with cabbage and beef.

The tuna shashlyk is essentially a tuna-kebab. Yellow-fin is served with sauerkraut, pickled radishes, scallions and nori. For something slightly denser, opt for the lamb tenderloin. It’s served alongside pickled chilis, preserved lemon, pomegranate reduction, asparagus and basil.

And for dessert, house-made halva ice cream is served with burch syrup and gooseberry coulis.

From start to finish, including the neighbourhood and environment, a meal here serves as an escape from the blustering weather and a way to warm up from the inside out.

Reservations are accepted but not required, so don’t hesitate to pop in the next time you’re strolling along Harbord.
