Grab a pint from one of the winners of the Great American Beer Festival

This past weekend marked the first installation of the Great American Beer Festival going virtual.

“This year’s GABF competition may have looked a little different, but the beers entered into the competition were as impressive and innovative as ever,” said Chris Swersey, competition manager, Great American Beer Festival, in a press release.

Physically distanced judging took place in 35 sessions over 18 days with strict safety measures in place. After judging 8,806 entries from 1,720 breweries from all 50 states, Washington raked in a total of 17 awards.

Here are the Washington breweries that earned a medal in the 2020 Great American Beer Festival:

Perry Street Brewing — Spokane, WA

Perry Street Brewing’s IPA took gold in the category of American Style India Pale Ale, beating out 354 breweries.

Bale Breaker Brewing Co. — Yakima, WA

The Hazy L IPA from Bale Breaker Brewing Co. took home silver in the Juicy or Hazy Pale Ale category.

Burke-Gilman Brewing Co. — Seattle, WA

The Hopsplainer by Burke-Gilman Brewing Co. beat out 192 entries to win gold in the 60th category: Juicy or Hazy Imperial India Pale Ale.

Not A Scientist by Cloudburst Brewing took silver in Category 60: Juicy or Hazy Imperial India Pale Ale.

Chuckanut Brewery — North Nut, Bellingham, WA

Chuckanut Brewery took three medals, Chuckanut Maibock in Category 47: Bock, Chuckanut Chuck Lite in Category 34: Light Lager, and Chuckanut Rye in Category 12: Rye Beer.

The Good Society, producing less than 750 barrels a year, won small brewpub of the year. They also took home gold in the Belgian-Style Ale or French-Style Ale category with their beer First to Fall.
