University of Washington named one of the top 30 universities in the world

The University of Washington (UW) placed 29th in the 2021 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

The ranking, released this week, also features Washington State University, which placed in the 301–350 range.

UW placed 26th in last year’s rankings, moving down three spots this year.

The report lists over 1,500 universities in the world and claims to be the “only global university performance table to judge research-intensive universities across all of their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.”

Universities were ranked on 13 criteria, including teaching, research, citations, industry income, and international outlooks.

England’s University of Oxford placed first on the list for the fifth year in a row, while the US is home to eight of the top 10 universities in 2021.

  3. California Institute of Technology (4)
  4. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (5)
  5. University of California, Berkeley (7)
