The Sydney Opera House in Australia is the latest facility to offer digitized performances for viewers to enjoy while quarantining.

In an initiative entitled From our House to yours, the Sydney Opera House seeks to “inspire, educate, and entertain local and global communities while the venue’s doors are temporarily closed to the public,” an official press release states.

The program will feature full-length performances as well as “never-before-seen footage,” extensive articles, podcasts, and other behind-the-scenes content.

The new digitized format follows the Opera House’s exclusive event for Piano Day 2020, on March 28, which featured at-home performances by Andrew Lam, Margaret Leng Tan, and Simon Tedeschi.

It also contained unreleased recordings of Jon Hopkins and Joep Beving, as well as interviews with the Piano Day founder, Nils Frahm.

“Content will be available on-demand,” CEO of Sydney Opera House, Louise Herron, explained in the release.

“In addition, there will be scheduled daily releases from our new digital season from Wednesday to Sunday, so people can tune in, enjoy and even chat to other viewers while they watch, as part of a wider community.”

Herron continues that she hopes the From our House to yours initiative will bring some comfort to the world during this trying time.

New South Wales Minister for the Arts, Don Harwin, also sang the program’s praises.

“The NSW Government built the Opera House for the people of our nation,” he stated.

“The beauty of the Opera House’s new online program is that it brings people together regardless of where they are, inspiring and giving hope to our community in these difficult times.”
