Gastrointestinal illness outbreak reported at Saigon Vietnam Deli

King County Public Health has reported an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness at Saigon Vietnam Deli.

The restaurant, located at 1200 S Jackson Street, is currently under investigation for causing at least eight people to fall ill with diarrhea, vomiting, body aches, headaches, and fevers associated with a takeout meal on July 25, 2020.

A specific food or drink item that might have caused the illnesses has not been identified, although an inspection on August 6 by an Environmental Health investigator revealed potential risk factors including inadequate hand washing, improper cleaning and sanitizing of food contact surfaces, inadequate cold holding of foods, and food-handling practices that could lead to cross-contamination of bacteria.

According to Public Health officers, “corrective actions were discussed with restaurant management.”
