8 local Portland gyms that are offering online classes during the "freeze"

Nov 20 2020, 7:12 pm

With new COVID-19 restrictions in play across the state, Portland’s officially “frozen,” but that doesn’t mean you need to be.

Though gyms have closed their brick-and-mortar locations to align with the new regulations, there are still many virtual ways to keep seeing fitness results in the next few weeks, in addition to getting outside.

Not only is it a great way to support some local Portland businesses, but it’s also a proactive way to burn off that takeout you’ll be eating and make room for the giant turkey you’ll be swan-diving into next week.

So don’t be a couch potato — save that starchiness for the holidays. Grab your yoga mat and fire up your laptop; here are six local Portland gyms where you can break a sweat and get into full beast-mode right from home.

A local gym based in the St. Johns neighborhood, PDXStrength is moving to fully online classes for the next four weeks. Whether it’s strength and conditioning or a butt-and-gut class you’re after, PDXStrength has got you covered, no matter what your schedule is.

The gym is running anywhere from one to five Zoom classes per day starting whenever you need, from 7:30 am to an after-work class at 5:15 pm. Make sure to sign up online in advance, and have a look at the full schedule here.

Bold and Badass

Bold and Badass has got a ton planned in the last weeks of November, throughout December, and beyond. You can try a free class or sign up for a membership and take everything from bodyweight classes to a guided meditation. You can even pull your housemates off the couch and get them to join a small group workout class, held virtually, of course. And don’t forget their virtual Thanksgiving holiday workout on November 26. Full schedule here.

Studio Blue Pilates

There’s nothing like stretching out your core and building up that endurance with pilates. Studio Blue Pilates in Portland has got lots of live virtual classes planned, including virtual private classes held through FaceTime or Skype. Classes are open to anyone with a mat package (for which you get the first week free) or membership.

Members also get unlimited access to a video library of workouts, or you can buy them à la carte.
