10 places to get takeout in Portland as indoor dining shutters

Nov 19 2020, 2:55 pm

With new COVID-19 restrictions taking effect in Oregon and expected to last a full month in Portland, one of the new regulations that’ll hit hardest is the closure of indoor dining.

But with Portland still being one of the west coast’s top foodie scenes, you bet we’ll still be taking advantage of the many takeout and delivery options available.

Whether you’re vegan or a hardcore carnivore, blessed with a sweet tooth or savoury, or want to mix it up with some sushi and a warm bowl of ramen as the weather cools, here’s a list of 10 of our favourite places you can order takeout in PDX:

  1. Harlow

Portland is a Mecca of vegan and vegetarian food in the Pacific Northwest, so we know you need one of those on the list. Among your tasty options at Harlow Restaurant; curry bowls, vegan Reuben sandwiches, avocado bagels, and a carnitas jackfruit wrap.

You can order in-person, online or over the phone. You can also order delivery through DoorDash and Caviar.

Another vegan favourite, if you’re looking for some traditional Israeli cuisine in PDX, you can’t go wrong with Aviv. Whether it’s a variety of hummus operations, roasted carrots, or a quick and easy falafel plate you’re after, you can order from Aviv’s comprehensive menu online or get delivery on Grubhub, Caviar, or DoorDash.

Sushi comes alive at Masu. Not literally (thank goodness), but they’ve got some super creative rolls. Our personal favorite: Death by sushi. A roll stuffed with salmon, unagi, crab, avocado, and cream cheese, topped with masago, green onion, and eel sauce. You also can’t go wrong with a plate of calamari, miso soup, or an order of the Nemo Roll. Masu Sushi is open for takeout and delivery from 4 pm to 9:30 pm Monday through Sunday.

With multiple locations throughout Portland, Bamboo Sushi had to make the list.

Its southwest location is currently listed as temporarily closed on its website, but rest assured, the others are open for curbside pickup and delivery. From a sunomono salad, to edamame, to a whole range of sushi rolls (An example: one entitled “Friday the 13th,” made of spicy salmon, cucumber, avocado, topped with albacore, tempura flakes, spicy aioli and eel sauce), Bamboo Sushi is guaranteed to satisfy your craving. You can order takeout online or catch them on Caviar as well.

Nothing says takeout like ordering a pizza. Although you can’t devour a cheesy pie in Firehouse’s unique defunct firehouse furnished with cozy wooden booths, this spot serving up thin-crust Italian pizza is open for takeout and delivery Thursday through Saturday from 4 pm and 8 pm. Choose between pepperoni, roasted mushroom, fennel sausage, or the classic Margherita. Or ditch the pizza for some pork rags or a mushroom lasagna — we won’t tell. You can order by phone (beat the rush, phone orders start at 3 pm) or order delivery on Postmates.
