We’re still a little ways away from being able to peruse the shelves of stores around Portland, with or without restrictions, but we just got a little bit closer thanks to famed bibliophile heaven Powell’s City of Books.
Beginning Thursday, Powell’s flagship store on Burnside will be offering pick-up service for the first time since closing all physical retail spaces almost two months ago.
Though Powell’s remained open online (being able to rehire a number of their store staff to handle the influx of digital consumers), reopening part of the brick-and-mortar shops is an essential step in the survival of business such as this.

While delivery options are still available, the speed of the pick-up shopping will get a lot more books in the hands of readers in a timely fashion.

All you have to do is shop online and select the store pick-up option. For a faster pick-up, make sure you’re ordering a book that is available at the Burnside Powell’s City of Books location and someone will be able to pluck it from the shelves in a matter of minutes.
Place your order, await notification, then pick it up at your convenience.
Powell’s is a treasure and international staple, and for book lovers in the Portland area, it can bring a whole mountain of much-needed entertainment in the current state of the world.
