US Costco shoppers required to wear masks starting next week

Apr 29 2020, 5:44 pm

Effective Monday, May 4, Costco locations will resume regular operating hours across the country and require shoppers to don face masks that cover their mouth and nose.

The face mask requirement will not apply to children under the age of two or to individuals who are unable to wear a mask or face covering due to a medical condition.

“The changes we’ve made to our business are too numerous to list, but some examples include: limits in our locations on the number of members; social distancing in lines; enhanced sanitation; limited services in certain businesses; modified weekday hours; plexiglass shields at checkstands; and special hours for seniors and high-risk groups,” said Craig Jelinek, president and CEO of Costco Wholesale, in a letter posted on the company’s website.

Although Costco locations are resuming regular hours, those with disabilities or age 60+ can continue shopping during special operating hours of 9 to 10 am. No more than two people will be able to enter the warehouse with each membership card.

Healthcare workers and first responders who present an official identification of their role will still be allowed to move to the front of any line to enter the warehouse.
