Portland’s food scene is one of the most diverse and authentic in the country, so you may not be sure where to start your culinary journey.

From perfectly steamed dumplings in traditional bamboo steamers to West Coast-inspired contemporary Chinese cuisine, there is something for everyone’s liking.

Here are the seven best spots for Chinese food in Portland:

Wei Wei – A Taste Of Taiwan

This cozy, family-owned establishment specializes in handmade dumplings and noodles, and is an ode of sorts to the owners’ Taiwanese roots and history. Their pan-fried dumplings are absolutely delicious and stuffed generously with tender minced pork that melts in your mouth. You seriously need to visit this place asap.

Chin’s Kitchen doesn’t play around. Their Northeastern style Chinese restaurant has generous portion sizes at good prices, which makes a trip down to Chin’s all the more worth it. Our personal favorite here is the seafood dumplings, a plate of juicy parcels of shrimp, eggs, and Chinese leeks all encased in perfectly pleated doughy wrappers.

Ocean City Seafood Restaurant is a family-style establishment and offers some of the best dim sum in the city. Their freshly made dim sum is perfectly complemented by their other menu offerings, including congee, noodles, rice, and steamed buns. Our personal favorites include their scallop dumplings, deep-fried shrimp dumplings, and their mixed fungus dumplings.

If you’re looking for Sichuan classics, Szechuan Garden is your new go-to. We recommend some of the restaurant’s classics, including the eggplant in hot garlic sauce and dan dan noodles.

Let’s get one thing straight: Taiwan cuisine is not Chinese cuisine. That being said, the flavors are pretty similar, and Oolong Yuan is not a place to skip.

Chef/owner Xuemei Simard can usually be found working away on her hand-pulled noodles inside her food cart that she owns with her husband, Duane. Their noodles are some of the best in the city — you’re going to want two orders.
