Power outage gives Chicago tower a "face" that's the mood for 2020

It’s safe to say that 2020 hasn’t been the easiest year. In fact, that would most likely be considered an understatement.

In times like these, it is essential to try and find humor wherever possible. To that end, residents of Chicago have been delightfully posting on Twitter about the appearance of the Willis Tower.

Formerly known as the Sears Tower, the structure is an iconic building that is known as a key feature of the city’s skyline.

The 110-story building has been without power since Monday due to substantial flooding.

“Due to the intense rain overnight and related flooding, Willis Tower is currently closed to all tenants and visitors,” the Willis Tower website explains. “The Chicago Fire Department and Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) have been on site through the night working to assess the situation.”

Social media users were quick to notice the structure’s darkened facade on Tuesday night, noting its rather grim appearance that seemed to resemble a face.

But not just any old face, one that looks entirely fed up with everything.

“Even the sears tower is done with 2020s bullshit lmao look at that face,” one Twitter user wrote.

“I’ll never get this image of the disappointed Sears Tower out of my head,” another posted.

The “face” is undoubtedly relatable, and the overall message of finding the funny in what seems like the darkest of situations (get it?) only goes to show the resiliency and humor of the people of not only Chicago but the world, who get to enjoy these memes and captions as they brighten up their day.
