Lisa Mancini didn’t choose the squirrel life – but it certainly chose her.

The St. Catharines, ON native has two pet squirrels, Rock and Lily, who live with her and basically treat her like she’s their mom.

In a feature on Humans of St. Catharines (think: Humans of New York) earlier this year, Mancini explained how she came to be a real-life squirrel whisperer:

I work downtown and for an hour everyday since November I started spending my lunch hour at Montebello Park. While sitting on a bench I would watch the squirrels and admire them. I started bringing them food here and there. Gradually they began eating from my hand and eventually started sitting on my lap! After doing this for so long I really wanted a pet squirrel. This is Rocky and Lily. They are inseparable brother and sister squirrels a friend found abandoned in their backyard. My friend knew how much I love squirrels and he gave them to me to raise and take care of. For a while they lived inside my house but I began to feel bad for them because I’m not home enough to give them the attention that they deserve. For the past few weeks these two have lived freely right outside my house. They are free to go in and out of their open cage to eat, sleep and drink whenever they please. Whenever I come home they still cling and jump all over me. Sometimes I take them to nearby parks and let them play in the trees until they come down. These little guys have brought me so much joy, and I hope they always stay by my side. I guess you could say we’re kind of like a little family.”

Her Instagram feed is filled with pictures and videos of her interacting with her ‘little family’, and it’s freaking adorable:
