Earlier this month, the city of Montreal released data that revealed the 11,000 dog names and 4,000 cat names registered with municipal authorities in Montreal. The data consisted of dog and cat names registered between 2010 and 2015.

According to Montreal pet permits issued between 2010 and 2015, the most popular dog name in Montreal was Maya and the most popular cat name in Montreal was Charlie. 333 pups were named Maya while 34 cats share the name Charlie.

The top 10 dog names were Maya, Maggie, Charlie, Bella, Jack, Max, Lucky, Rocky, Daisy, and Molly.

The top 10 cat names were Charlie, Charlotte, Minou, Maya, Mimi, Minette, Bella, Felix, Caramel, and Leo.

Whether it’s a love of pop culture, puns, or history that inspired these name choices, Montrealers sure love the names Maya, Charlie, and Bella.
