Public transport in Montreal is going to get a little bit pricier.

This just means we should all be biking more this summer.

The STM (Société de transport de Montreal) is gearing up to increase the cost of bus and metro rides.

The new fares will come into effect on July 1 but they won’t affect the one-trip, two-trip, 24-hour, or the Unlimited Weekend passes.

The increasing fares will impact the regular 10-day trip pass by $1 and the 6-17 and the 65+ age group by $0.50.

The Weekly pass regular fare will increase by $0.75 and the 6-17 and the 65+ age group by $0.25. The Monthly pass will increase across the board by a $2, $0.25, and $1.25 difference. The 4-month pass is increasing by $2 and Group passes are going up by $0.50.

The Unlimited Evening pass, valid from 6 pm to 5 am, will increase by a quarter.

Price modifications will vary depending on transit fare selected and your age group. Here is a complete list of the new cost of transit starting July 1:

STM rides are free for children aged 5 and under at all times, and for children aged 6 to 11 during certain periods as part of the Family Outings program.

As usual, transit passes will not be sold aboard vehicles and exact change is required to board the bus.
