By the end of 2020, the STM will have 300 hybrid buses in its fleet, 32 of which have already arrived since the beginning of the year.

The transit company has announced that an average of 30 hybrid vehicles will continue to roll through per month.

LaSalle’s STM garage was the first to receive the new buses, according to the company, and many customers in the south-western part of the island may have already hopped on the new hybrid vehicles.

New buses can be identified by their serial number, all of which start with 40. They have two spots reserved for wheelchairs, air-conditioning, and USB chargers.

Depending on the season and average bus speed, the STM says reduction of fuel consumption and GHG emissions can reach 30% better than their biodiesel counterparts.

At the end of 2020, the STM’s total bus fleet will increase to 2,107. Currently, 296 hybrid buses are in use.

Since 2018, the STM says hybrid buses have been 36% more reliable than the average biodiesel vehicle.
