Quebec RCMP raid home linked to poison-laced letter sent to White House

Quebec RCMP officers searched a condominium in Saint-Hubert on Monday in connection to poison-laced letters that were sent to the United States.

The letters were allegedly laced with ricin, a poison found naturally in castor beans.

A Quebec RCMP spokesperson told Daily Hive that the force’s CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives) squad, “a specialized team of officers with expertise in handling explosives” led Monday evening’s search.

The spokesperson also stated that the RCMP, who’s assisting the FBI in the investigation, believes a total of six poison-laced letters were sent — five to the state of Texas and one addressed to the White House. The RCMP didn’t provide any additional details as to where exactly the Texas letters were mailed to.

The RCMP says they believe there is a connection between the Saint-Hubert residence and the letters but the spokesperson couldn’t confirm that the “woman in question lives at the residence.”

The suspect was arrested at the Fort Erie border of Ontario and Buffalo, New York over the weekend.
