Trump claims Canada wants the US land border opened

On the same day Canada announced it’s extending the pandemic-related US border closure, US President Donald Trump claimed Canada wants it opened.

Speaking to reporters Friday, Trump claimed he’s working with Canada to “pick a good day” to reopen the land crossing.

“We’re looking at the border with Canada. Canada would like it opened. We want to get back to normal business,” he said.

No Canadian official has said the country is looking to reopen the border.

Earlier Friday morning, Canada’s Public Safety Minister Bill Blair announced the border closure would remain in effect at least until October 21.

The world’s longest undefended international boundary was closed to land crossings in March as the coronavirus pandemic took hold in North America.

The US has more than 6.7 million confirmed coronavirus cases, the most of any country in the world, according to Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Centre.
