Electricity rates will increase by 1.3% on April 1, 2021, following a freeze during the year 2020.
Hydro-Quéebec announced in a press release on Friday that the increase corresponds to inflation of the Québec Consumer Price Index (CPI) between September 30, 2019, and September 30, 2020.

Given the difficulties surrounding the pandemic, the utility company says it will “continue to provide relief measures for its customers.”
Hydro-Québec says for customers who want to avoid paying administration charges on unpaid bills to visit the company’s website to work on a “payment arrangement.”
In addition, the postponement on service interruptions for nonpayment of bills will be extended until at least March 31, 2021. As a result, the company says no customers will have their power cut off.
