Quebec reports 44 more coronavirus deaths as cases surpass 47,000

The government of Quebec reported on Sunday that the province’s COVID-19-related death toll had reached 3,984, after announcing 44 more deaths since Saturday.

According to Quebec’s Public Health Expertise and Reference Center, the updated provincial numbers state that there are 47,411 known confirmed cases of coronavirus with 1,435 hospitalizations, 170 of whom are in intensive care (ICU).

Deputy Premier Geneviève Guilbault emphasized in a briefing on Friday the necessity of continuing to wear face masks as much as possible. “There are still people for whom it hasn’t become a habit. Particularly in closed places, businesses, stores, and public transit, masks are about protecting others.”
