Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for Montreal, calling for significant snowfall on Wednesday and Thursday.

A developing low pressure storm over Texas will track up towards Quebec starting tomorrow. “Snow is expected to begin Wednesday evening and intensify in the late overnight and early Thursday morning hours,” states the weather agency.

Areas from Montreal to Sherbrooke could see total snowfall amounts up to 15 centimetres of “local blowing snow.”

Heavy snow may lead to difficult driving conditions during Thursday’s morning rush hour in and around Montreal.

The statement, issued early on Wednesday morning, is in effect for the following areas:

  • Châteauguay – La Prairie area
  • Laval area
  • Longueuil – Varennes area
  • Montréal Island area

The alert notes that since the weather system’s track is still moving, there is some uncertainty as to how much snow could actually fall.

Environment Canada urges citizens to continually monitor weather updates and alerts heading into the weekend.
