Montreal is one of the top-ranked tech talent cities in Canada.
According to the CBRE Scoring Canadian Tech Talent report, Montreal took home the fourth spot among in the country and 16th in the world, wedged between Salt Lake City (15th) and Minneapolis (17th).
From a Canadian standpoint, Montreal ranked behind Ottawa (3rd), Vancouver (2nd), and Toronto took home the top spot.
The San Francisco Bay Area, Washington DC, and Seattle took home the top three spots in the overall rankings.
According to the report, the tech sector has “generally fared well” through the COVID-19 pandemic. This can be largely accounted for in e-commerce and social platforms, which saw booms at the start of the pandemic as people went into lockdown.
And success extended to more specialized areas like cybersecurity, IT infrastructure, gaming, and work-from-home enablers, all of which increased in demand.
In total, across Canada, the tech labour pool is 899,200, with Toronto accounting for a large portion of it and Vancouver, Montreal and Ottawa rounding out the group.
