Snowfall warning in effect for Montreal as up to 15 cm of snow expected

Feb 15 2021, 3:01 pm

As parts of the country enjoy an off-day Monday for Family Day, Montreal is starting off the week under a snow alert.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Montreal metropolitan area, with total amounts of 15 cm of powder in the forecast.

“Snow will develop Monday evening and will intensify overnight and end Tuesday evening,” says the alert. The weather agency says heavy winds combined with the snow will give “blowing snow over exposed areas” on Tuesday.

Environment Canada says rapidly accumulating snow can make it difficult to travel and may reduce driver’s visibility.

“There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas,” concluded the alert.

The warning, issued just after 4:30 am on Monday, is in effect for the following areas:

  • Châteauguay – La Prairie area
  • Laval area
  • Longueuil – Varennes area
  • Montréal Island area

At the end of the workweek, another walloping of 15 cm is in the forecast, with 10 cm in the cards for Friday.
