The SPVM (Service de police de la Ville de Montréal) is warning the public about fraudsters using the phone numbers of government services and police departments to try to extort money from citizens.
According to Montreal police, the scammers are using a computer app that allows them to display specific phone numbers “of their choice” during phone calls.
In a press release, the SPVM reminds citizens to never divulge personal information during phone calls.
