7 ways to celebrate International Women's Day in Montreal

Thursday, March 8 is International Women’s day and events celebrating women and their accomplishments will be taking place in Montreal and around the world.

The purpose of IWD is to recognize women’s achievements and acknowledge the challenges they continue to face in the quest for gender equality. It may be 2018, but the fight for rights for all women still has a long way to go.

Here in Montreal, there is no shortage of events and things you can do to celebrate International Women’s Day. Here are some of our top picks:

Women’s Contribution in Politics – Filminst Festival

To Celebrate International Women’s Day and kick off the first day of the Filminist Festival, this event will highlight the contribution of women in politics. With Montreal electing its first female mayor to women’s leadership roles in politics, there will be plenty of empowering topics to explore. There will also be a screening of the documentary Ada for Mayor and a live DJ on site.

Intersectionelles Screening

As part of the International Women’s Day, Force des Daughters and Force du Monde invites you to the screening of our documentary entitled “IntersectionnELLES” at the Holden-Fisher Hall of the YWCA Montreal.The documentary will be followed by #Slamton8mars, an open mic evening of slam and feminist poetry.
