We’re halfway to the weekend and Montreal’s boasting a slew of great events to get you thinking about the weekend. Here are five eventful things to check out in the city today, December 5.

And, because it’s the season of giving, most of them are free.

Arts and Laughs: Dreams

Turbo HaĂŒs is hosting a free comedy show where performers and audience members connect of the same theme.

The comedians will perform a set based around the theme “dreams” and patrons get to doodle, draw, paint and sculpt with a selection of art supplies that are provided by the venue.

Le Marché de Noël chez Maison Pepin

Maison Pepin has channelled their inner-Harry Potter and have transformed their charming alleyway into a breathtaking rustic Christmas market.

The market itself will feature a variety of locally-made products for sale and DIY workshops from gift packaging to wreath making.

Think about all the Instagramable moments this alleyway presents.

McKibbin’s Irish Pub Hooley Night

McKibbin’s Irish Pub hosts their “Hooley Night” tonight on their third-floor dance club. Ladies pay $10 at the door, gentlemen pay $25 and then it’s an open bar, all you can drink. That includes  Moosehead beer, vodka, gin, rum, rye and whiskey as part of the special.

There’s a dance floor, DJ and a whole lot of people; lines form pretty quickly so get there good and early.

Le Village du Vilain Sapin – Ugly Christmas Tree Launch

It’s important to laugh at yourself. And, that’s exactly what this year’s ‘Ugly Christmas Tree Village’ in Whoville Montreal will be doing this holiday season, literally.

The second edition of Le Village du Vilain Sapin features more than just an ugly, Charlie Brown-esque tree as this year’s evergreen will be ticklish.

Yes. A ticklish Christmas tree.

Motion detectors and built-in loudspeakers will be incorporated into this year’s Frankentree that will bellow out laughter when guests shake the bottom branches to tickle it.

Shane Murphy at Honey Martin Pub

Shane Murphy is one of the best musicians in Montreal. He appeared at Jazz Fest this summer and is back to his regular Wednesday gig at Honey Martin Pub in NDG. He’s silky smooth on the guitar and has a soothing and hip voice. He plays covers and original pieces, considering it’s free entrance to watch him – it’s an absolute steal.
