Seeing deserted Montreal streets and landmarks might make you long for easier times.

Maybe we won’t take an autumn stroll down Ste. Catherine Street for granted whenever that opportunity reemerges.

Filmmaker Matthew Smith has shared a black and white video of eerily empty Montreal streets, but with an inspiring twist.

The video, titledĀ Montreal Together, highlights how our city is unprecedentedly empty and quiet but focuses on how Montrealers can unify together and come out the other side as stronger citizens.

“There is no doubt that the past month has been life changing for so many people,” reads Smith’s Instagram caption. “I made this video with one wish in mind. To inspire the city of Montreal and remind everyone that we are in this together, for each other. We will beat this. And when we do, we will come back stronger than ever.

“My heart is with everyone who has been affected.”

The video was shared on Sunday afternoon and has already amassed over 58,000 views.
