Retail businesses in Montreal will open as planned a week from today, Quebec Premier François Legault announced Monday.

“I am really happy to announce we have the green light to open retail businesses in the Montreal region in one week as planned,” said Legault in the press conference.

“We’re talking about shops that have a door on the outside.”

Public health authorities also gave the green light to reopen daycare centres in the region on June 1st.

“It’s going well outside of the Montreal area, but parents need to know that there are not enough places for every child, so I appeal to your patience,” said Legault.

Legault also announced over 700 new cases and 34 deaths related to coronavirus Monday, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 43,627.

“I also want to ask Quebecers to continue to be very careful. If we don’t want to put the brakes on the reopening, we need to follow public health instructions. We need to keep our distances and wear a mask in public.”

“I’m counting on you all.”
