Downtown Montreal's new gourmet food and beer garden opens on January 23

It looks like the Eaton Centre’s Time Out Market is about to get some tasty competition.

As part of Ville Marie’s $200-million revitalization, the now-closed Place Ville Marie food court has been transformed into a gourmet food and beer garden.

The 35,000-sq-ft space has been rejuvenated as Le Cathcart Restaurants et Biergarten under the glass pavilion of the Place Ville Marie Esplanade.

Open seven days a week, all year round, the biergarten will offer seating for more than a thousand people with three full-service restaurants, nine food kiosks, and two cafes, aiming to become the go-to destination for business lunches, happy hour, and festive evenings alike.

Le Cathcart will be operated and built by architecture firms Sid Lee and Menkes Shooner Dagenais Letourneaux and will feature highly skilled chefs from Montreal’s culinary scene, including chef Antonio Park.

“Designed as a public space bathed in light and vegetation, this indoor garden will offer a festive social experience where people can enjoy good food and drink, quickly becoming a lively meeting place adapted to the ebb and flow of daily life, and ideal for after-work get-togethers,” reads Le Cathcart’s website.

The lively urban square in the heart of a busy district with festive terraces, Le Cathcart Restaurants et Biergarten will echo Montreal’s exciting street vibe, acting as an indoor extension of the city and its love for good food.
