Google Canada has announced plans to open three new offices in the country, one of which will be in Montreal.

The Montreal location will be part of the tech behemoth’s Canadian expansion alongside two new Ontario offices in Toronto and Waterloo.

According to the company’s press release, the three new offices will accommodate up to 5,000 Canadian employees by 2022.

“The opening of this Google office in MontrĂ©al, which will have capacity to welcome up to 1,000 employees, is extremely heartening news,” says Pierre Fitzgibbon, Minister of Economy and Innovation. “Earlier in December, QuĂ©bec Premier François Legault met with company executives at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View to praise all that QuĂ©bec has to offer in terms of artificial intelligence and video gaming.”

The statement pointed out that Google’s search and advertising products help generate an estimated $23 billion in annual economic activity for more than 500,000 businesses, a total impact equivalent to approximately 1.1% of Canada’s entire GDP.

The news report did not mention where the new Montreal Google office will set up or if Google’s current location on McGill Avenue will be expanded or moved.
