Genie Bouchard owes stranger a date after regrettable Super Bowl bet

Whether it’s the picking the favourite, the underdog, the result of the coin toss, or the length of the national anthem, seemingly everyone has a bet on Super Bowl Sunday.

Canadian star tennis player Genie Bouchard is no different.

Like the rest of us, the 45th-ranked player on the WTA Tour was watching the Atlanta Falcons and the New England Patriots battle for the big prize.

With Atlanta up and looking strong, she began to gloat.

With the Patriots on the ropes and Genie supremely confident, the smartest man in America asked this question:

SHE SAID YES.

And who could blame her? The Patriots were done…

With the Falcons up 28-3 midway through the third quarter, an Atlanta Super Bowl victory looked like a foregone conclusion.

But then Tom Brady and the New England Patriots started to stage a fourth quarter comeback.

Nerves began to set in…

Doubt crept in…

Reality crept in…

By now, you know the final result. The Patriots made the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history, overcoming a 25-point deficit to beat Atlanta 34-28 in overtime.

I guess Genie Should have gone for this bet instead…

The smartest man in America, if you’re wondering, is from Chicago and goes to school in Missouri.

He’s one of Genie’s 999,000 followers on Twitter.

How does Genie feel the day after?

Yep. Never bet against Tom Brady.

*Update: It’s confirmed, she’s going on the date.
