The STM will be handing out reusable face masks throughout its bus network this week, starting on August 24.
Wearing a face mask/covering has been mandatory on all public transit in the STM (Société de transport de Montréal) since July 13. They must be worn on buses as soon as you enter and kept on for the entirety of the rider’s travels.
The STM describes a face covering as a “tightly fitting mask or piece of fabric that covers the nose and mouth.”

“We believe that if we all do our part and follow public health recommendations, then together, we can avoid a second wave of infections,” states the STM website. Montreal’s public transit network says their approach is working, citing that 97% of people in the metro network are wearing masks and 99% of people in the bus network.

The STM will be distributing face coverings on “randomly selected buses” on the following lines to maximize its reach. “Follow this timetable to increase your chances of being able to get a new face covering from one of them,” the STM said.
The STM says since bus drivers, métro operators, and station agents will remain behind protective screens, additional protection is not necessary for them.
