Hip ice cream spot Dalla Rose opens in St.Henri

Just in time for the Montreal heatwave, a new ice cream spot is cooling people off in a truly delicious way.

Opened two days ago, St.Henri’s newest resident, Dalla Rose, is already causing quite a buzz and for good reason.

The ice cream is amazing and can be served in a cookie sandwich form, a cone, or the classic cup way.

To get the scoop on Dalla Rose, I popped by the picturesque spot and spoke with Co-Founders Nick Rosati and Michael Dalla Libera.

Who is behind Dalla Rose?

Nick was the general manager at Nora Gray for 3 years and Michael was the chef de cuisine at Nora Gray – this is where we met. Michael was the Head Chef at Manitoba for 1 year before we started this project. Our head baker Candice Pearson worked with Michael at Java U as well and is now part of our team.

Why did you choose that name?

Dalla Rose is a combination of both of our family names. We are both Italian-Canadian and wanted to bring a little touch of our heritage to the name.

What is the concept?

The concept is taking our experience in high-end restaurants and focusing our apittudes on one product to create the best experience possible. We offer handmade, artisanal ice cream spun every day, and fresh home made cookies by Candice. We offer cups (2 balls, 3 balls), cones (2 balls), and ice cream sandwiches fait a la minute– mix and match style.

Why did you decide to open shop in St.Henri?

We chose St Henri because we both worked in proximity to the area while at Nora Gray and fell in love with it. Also the block is just too much fun with Lupita, Arthurs, Campanelli, Adamo, and loic!

What makes your ice cream special?

Our ice cream is special because it is made by hand from a to z. Our milk is from Nutrinor – a co-operative in the lac St. Jean area. We try to work with as many local and seasonal products as possible, and maintain connections with foragers Michael met while working at Manitoba. We also offer vegan options. A vegan ice cream (contains soy) and cookie are always available.

What’s on the menu?

Our menu is fluid and there is no regularity to flavours. We use what is available to us and we create what we are inspired to create.
