Cirque du Soleil refunds audience after accidentally spraying them with vegetable oil

You can’t spell ‘Soleil’ without O-I-L, and unfortunately for audience members at a Washington State show, vegetable oil was the Cirque du Soleil’s main attraction.

A mechanical problem during the Canadian entertainment company’s show Volta caused audience members and performers on stage to be sprayed with vegetable oil.

Cirque du Soleil said in a statement that the show was cancelled during the first half of the 8 pm Friday night opening show in Redmond, Washington and all audience members are eligible for a full reimbursement.

An error in the tent’s hydraulic system led a hose to break which resulted in a vegetable oil downpour.

The company apologized for the incident and said no one was injured and that the oil posed no risk to the guests or the employees.

Anything can happen at the circus.
