Montreal Canadiens fans tuning in to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert might have done a double-take last night.
Here’s why.
On Wednesday, Colbert opened his monologue with a segment showing how different countries might react to the recent re-election of Donald Trump. The skit called “The world reacts to America’s decision” featured iconic characters symbolizing each country: video game legend Mario for Italy, and the Muppets’ Swedish Chef for Sweden.
For Canada, showrunners chose a clip of former Canadiens goalie Carey Price smashing his stick against the crossbar in frustration.
The unexpected cameo of Price’s memorable Bell Centre outburst from the 2014-15 season probably gave Habs fans a laugh — and served as a nod to the Canadian way of venting a little frustration.
Ironically, though, while Colbert openly expressed his dismay with the election outcome —remarking, “If you watch this show regularly, I’m guessing you’re not doing great” — Price’s wife, Angela, recently announced her support for Trump via Instagram.
One of her followers asked, “Are you actually going to vote for Donald Trump?” And, in a story last week, Angela responded, “already did.”

She also posted a video to the social network, claiming that people have told her to “go to hell” for making her conservative leanings public.
“It’s frustrating when people feel like they have to unfollow or criticize me for voting for Trump. Are we so self-absorbed that we cannot accept differing opinions? Embracing diverse perspectives is what will ultimately make us stronger,” the Washington native explained. “We must engage in respectful dialogue, challenge each other, and refrain from creating further division. It is easy to point fingers and blame the other side for being divisive, but we are all responsible for perpetuating this cycle.”
With a knee injury preventing him from returning to the ice, Price, 37, last suited up for Montreal in the spring of 2022.
He and Angela got married in 2013 and now reside in Kelowna, BC.
