An escaped crocodilian was a caught on camera Sunday casually crossing the street in Montreal’s Villeray neighbourhood.
Mayssam Samaha posted a video to Twitter, saying the traffic and the cold made her worried for the reptile.

Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante tweeted after the incident that the reptile had been returned to its owner. The animal is part of an education program, and its owner has all the proper permits.
She thanked the civilians who alerted police, and the officers who responded.
#polmtl

Although the mayor and the witness both identified the animal as an alligator, it could be a crocodile. The two animals are quite similar looking. Daily Hive has reached out to Montreal police for clarification.
